Just looked it up. https://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2014/de...t-released
20.8% of hate crimes in US are sexual orientation related. Plus .5% gender identity.
48.5% are racial related. Plus another 11.1% related to ethnicity.
Jesus. Where did I say that? Point me to the exact thing I said that made you think that.
I said these are two different issues and that comparing them isn't valid, so how did you come to the conclusion I was comparing them? -_-
I was responding to your assertion that black people should suffer from the same mental health problems as gay people because they are also a minority. Both homophobia and racism come from hatred and bigotry, but they have different backgrounds and refer to different things. It's apples to oranges.
Now would you kindly explain to me what exactly is your point?

I think they are both apples. I'm not trying to posit a conclusion, I want to have a discussion.

Well I don't know how to discuss with you if you don't tell me what your point is -_-
Do you really not see the difference between racism and social stigma attached to homosexuality? Because I'd say they're two pretty different things, you know

I see a small differences that is actually beneficial to gays compared to racial and ethnic minorities.
One can hide the fact they are gay. One can't hide their race. // Advantage gay
Both are born as they are and they can't change that. // tie
Both face violent hate for being what they are. // tie
Did you know there are 7 states that currently ban atheists from holding elected office? Can you imagine if gay people or a certain race wasn't allowed to hold office?

You see hiding one's identity as a benefit? Really?

You've conflated two things, and then you admit to them being different; which is it?

Holy mother eff! What does that have to do with anything you're trying to discuss here?

The benefit of being able to hide your identity is that you can choose to come out when it's safe. That's a choice that minority races and ethnicities don't have.
They are mostly the same, but there is that small difference that I pointed out above.
I was pointing out that us atheists face similar discrimination that gays face. I'm glad that there isn't any physical way to tell that I am an atheist. Definitely helps me avoid discrimination. When my grandma was alive my mom told me never to tell her I was an atheist or grandma wouldn't love me.

You do see that that's effed up, though, right? Having to hide your identity so that people won't jump you or stop loving you? I think of that as a disadvantage that gays have, actually, not a benefit.

Several of the gay men I know suffer anxiety attacks when they see how I dress. You wear lederhosen with an aloha shirt to ONE funeral, and people go all judgey on you.
