No stoner/doom/ slow stuff represented here yet. Here is one of my favorite sub-genres of metal.

These guys recently released a new record after many years. It's a mix of slow sludgy Sabbath-ish-ness with maybe a bit of Zep thrown in, all in a bluesy context with gospel singers at times.

Monster guitar sound - grrrrrrrr! Probably the least doomy of any of the doom metal bands...

I like GnR. The Use Your Illusion albums were awesome.  They had great songwriting with Slash on guitar.

Both these songs are some of the best by them, definetly better than Sweet Child O' Mine

Yup. And I'm not limiting myself to any kind of music. I like even this.

(it's not hard rock or metal, so play it at your own risk)

Having lived in Iran for four years, I learnt to love music from that part of the world. I don't know if you'e heard/heard of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, or Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, but I suspect you might like them:

Back to the original genres in question:

... and though I don't think of myself as being anywhere near the guys I've linked, here's my own take on heavy metal:

But seriously, a guy who tells Kurt Cobain to shut his bitch up doesn't deserve my respect, as much as I don't listen to Nirvana anymore.

For my money, Izzy was the heart of that band -- between him and Steven Adler, they created that shambling groove that gave AFD  so much of its charm.  SCoM is a damned good song, but stuff like "It's So Easy" or "You're Crazy" were for me the backbone of that album -- just simple raunch played at high volume with plenty of grease in the groove.

After Izzy and Steve left the band -- hell, even before -- they settled down into a staid four-on-the-floor hard rock band, to my ears -- no funk, no soul, just loud guitars and louder drums.

I don't know if we can really say GnR was a  soul/funk band, even though they have influences from many genres - Noticeably Axl Rose mentioned Aerosmith as a major influence and it's not surprising.

Yes, SCoM is a great song, it's just that I overplayed it so much I don't enjoy it as much as I used to - But this depends on my mood - Paradise city was the song that got me into GnR and I still love it to this day. I think the band gave amazing performances - During my GnR phase I watched a lot of live concerts on youtube and the overall chemistry of the band and Axl Rose's stage persona were great - Except when he decided to behave like an idiot, hit people, leave the concert for stupid reasons and arrive late (almost everytime from what people tell me).

I also like their cover of Knocking on Heaven's Door - It's a more rockish/heavier version

No, I wasn't saying they were a soul or funk band, but they had elements of that that made them stand out from their hair-metal Sunset-Strip peers. They were obviously a hard rock/heavy metal band. But Izzy and Steve played ahead and behind of the beat in a way that made their first album much less mechanical. I don't know if you're a musician or not, and it's hard to explain to a nonmusician, but where you land in relationship to the beat is what determines the feel of the music.
