How do you feel about stereotypes men have about black girls, like that you always have big asses and boobs, love having sex all the time, use welfare and have lots of kids, etc? (Not everyone hears or knows these stereotypes, I'm just giving random examples)
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you

Well unfortunately I fit the large butt and large boobs thing. But asking me how to twerk will get get you my patented "Bitch, please!" look. But from what I know we usually fall into two categories of body type extra curvy and extra skinny.
Since I met my boyfriend I have been a bit of a hornball but I think I'm just a kinky little weirdo. I find this stereotype odd because black men usually stereotype us as "picky, frigid, and golddiggers" I guess it's a matter of damned if you do damned if you don't.
Maybe it's because I'm not from "the ghetto" but most women in my family have only one or two kids. Actually I think that's women in general. Newsflash fellas we kinda like our bodies, kids ruin that! As for the public assistance thing it's amazing that one lie by Reagen has persisted so long.

What's the dumbest thing a white girl (or guy) has ever said/asked you?

1. You go girl! *snaps and rolls neck* if you don't know why I find this offensive too bad I'm not going bother explaining
2. I'm blacker than you!/You're not really black! Surprisingly I get this from black people just as often.
3. I just saw you the other day! How'd you grow your hair so fast!
4. What are you? A pink platypus with silver wings. Seriously what you meant was what is my racial background. First that's a personal question. Second My mother is Creole and my father is Afro-Cuban.

I've actually heard girls say stuff like this before, I guess it's because it's basically reducing you down to a stereotype?
I'm white so I haven't experienced 4 in the way you have per se, but I do get the classic "where are you from?... No, where really?" when people here my (Maltese) surname. Hello, I have a broad local British accent, and my family here go back 2 generations. Some people just have no tact.

Second point is mostly happens when you're my skin color or light. For some reason if you're not the color of a Hershey bar in America it confused the heck out of people.

As far as Americans are concerned yes there a definetly more white atheist than black. Not sure why. My family is baptist with a little Lutheran mixed in. The way we deal with everything uncomfortable in my family is simply don't talk about it. Hello, BrokenQuill92.
I'm new to this board and black, so I thought I might weigh in on this topic.
I've always maintained this crazy notion that blacks are just as diverse as any other group of people. Atheism in general, can't be accurately determined due to the social stigma and misinformation that surrounds it. I would be willing to bet serious money that the number of black non-believers in the USA is basically the same as as the general population.
I think it may be that blacks are less likely to identify as atheist, when they in fact are. No one wants to be stigmatized and viewed as lacking morality.....especially if you're a member of minority/subgroup that is already stigmatized to some degree.
Of course, there is the latest polling to consider. While I accept that there is a methodology to polling that is sound, I think anyone would agree that all polls are not created equally. Ever watch Fox News?
Anyway, this makes me think of short, but significant conversation I had with my grandmother a few months before she died. I was still a believer at the time (half-assed by then, but a believer nonetheless). She was filling out what seemed to be no less than one million Pick 3 Lotto slips for me to play for her at the gas station and another million tickets to check for her--just before I had to head home. I was pissed, but didn't want to let on. Desperately, I attempted to appeal to her on a religious level.
Me: Isn't there something in the Bible about gambling?
My grandmother looked up at me with something between disbelief and deep concern on her face.
Grandma: You do know that's a book, Thena.
Me: Huh?
Grandma: Go play my numbers. It's getting dark.
We all know more atheists than we think we do. You've just got to read between the lines sometimes.
