What are your favorite art/off-beat films?

You just missed the point of what I said, EP. It was just a polite way to say "if you think action movies are crap, then you're a retard, so go back to watch your boring crap and stfu about action movies". I'll keep for myself the rest of my opinion about art movies. An opinion you will not like.

How many art films did you watch and did you ever bother to look up thorough reviews of them? I, for one, watched hundreds of action movies, including 3 of those listed by you. However, I grew out of them, as they are an embarassment to the art of cinematography and a way to milk money out of the population at large. On a second thought, lets continue this in an off-topic thread. If you wish to, please start a thread there. I will join the conversation ASAP if you do so.

I guess they don't qualify as "action/thriller crap" but a few that come to mind are definitely mainstream hollywood. I was talking with someone about the really good little films Jack Nicholson has starred in. The first one is a big favorite of mine.
As Good as It Gets (1997) About Schmidt (2002) Something's Gotta Give (2003) Terms of Endearment (1983) Maybe I just relate well to movies about aging white guys with little regard for fitting in. On that topic be sure also to watch Bill Murray's Groundhog Day (1993)
They're boring! There's no action in art movies or anything to keep your eyes open and your attention focused. The only thing that art movies are good for is to be a substitute for sleeping drugs.
There's one movie I like (which I often re-watch) but it's more of a drama than an art movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0167565/ At least it's not an art movie in the sense I'm thinking you're talking about.

Great concept for a movie, I think. I'm sorry if the thread seems exclusivistic, but that's because I had something very specific in mind when creating it. Maybe the wording of the title is deceiving. I'll change it right now. Would you guys mind if I later maybe link some of your suggestions to their wiki counterparts?

I loved Dogville. Another example of why I like Nicole Kidman. She doesn't shy away from daring roles. Check her out in Fur. I think it works for this thread.
Loved Moon as well. I suggest: Electric Children- a teenaged girl growing up in a cultish family goes on a search for a lead singer she hears on a cassette tape she finds among her moms old stuff after she becomes convinced the music has impregnated her. As always, everyone should sit through Wetlands. 
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:
