"putting time in perspective," and some fun facts!

RE: "putting time in perspective," and some fun facts!
My apologies, everyone.

In my Catholic forum I used to participate in, it was common to share articles/etc that we found interesting and thought others would find interesting.

I guess it's not really a thing around here, and I've just been made aware that it's against the rules!
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

You'd struggle to find a topic that we all agree on, as we don't have any real common interests or opinions (apart from the obvious).

Maybe you're searching for the truth but haven't realised it yet?

Why not? Shy

Every person is someone I can learn from. Every person (well, almost anyway) is worth being friends with. I'm enjoying my time here a lot, mostly because you guys are something new and different to me.

So if I'm here anyway, and I'm enjoying my time here, then why not try to connect on a more human level and be in with the community? Shy

I have been a fan of Wait But Why for several months now, and thought it would be something you guys might like, and so I wanted to share that.

You're a pleasant and polite individual, you have that much in common with most people here, and that's why people here (myself included) like you, despite ideological differences.

You're also prepared to talk to us as people, about subjects other than how much we're going to regret stuff when we're dead.

How many other theists do that... I think they are all afraid they might accidentally have fun or admit atheists are people.

You can share articles all you want... just don't drop the link and hope that's enough, and add some of your own sauce in for extra encouragement.

Now that we're all just goofing off, tell us: what was the chain of reasoning that brought you to "atheist-forums.org"?

Maybe it starts with that other forum?...

I talked about it on another thread, so I'll just copy and paste: Smile

My husband is a pilot of the Air Force. Due to the demands of the Air Force, we currently live in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere in Texas. Three hours away from the next big city. My husband works 13-15 hours a day, 5 days a week.... and sometimes travels all weekend for cross country flights.

The fact that I am not much of a career woman, along with how hard it is to get a decent job in a town this size, is the reason why I am a stay at home wife. We also don't have any kids yet. I hang out with my girlfriends once or twice a week, but I honestly enjoy the quiet life. That's not to say I get bored, though lol.

Generally speaking, I like having discussions with people about things that matter. I can't stand small talk. And on top of that, I like having these discussions with people who have very different views from myself. If I wanted to have deep discussions with people who share my views I would have joined a Christian forum. I used to participate in a Catholic forum and didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I am enjoying this. I also joined a Mormon forum a few months ago... thinking perhaps they would be different enough. But they weren't. I got really bored really quick over there and haven't been back since. I think it's more fun, more interesting, and I feel like I can always learn from people who are so different from myself.

Cool Smile

Let us know when you're ready to join us, we'll email you the code to turn off all that Jesus stuff in your head Wink It was meant to be an optional extra, but it somehow got hardwired into some models and the manufacturer feigned ignorance. We've had to figure how to remove it ourselves.

I don't think so, but thanks for the offer. Wink

Must have missed it, before... :-s

What were we talking about? ah, time and perspective...
According to "Einstein":
- If you spend 4 hours with a beautiful girl, it will seem as though only 5 minutes passed by.
- If you spend 5 minutes with your hand over a burning fire, it will seem as though 4 hours have passed.

In essence, time flies, when you're having fun - that is relativity.
