Why don't you stick to targeting them with your awful comments?

After all that, I think she's showing some serious composure.

Oh give me a break Becca, I talk to everyone the same. I give people respect if they deserve it. I am fucking honest. That is more respect than what CL has given anyone here.

Looks like she's done a number on you too.

Ok, Napo. If "done a number" means I believe she's nice, respectful, inquisitive, and sincere, then sure. I've been had Rolleyes

To be honest, yes. I would rather get all the insults and superiority complexes instead of what CL is doing. It doesn't feel honest to me. It would be much easier to talk to her, as strange as it may sound.

Quote:"Could you clarify" and "are you saying ____ ?" is just me trying to further understand someone's position. The latter is not meant to be a misrepresentation, that's why it's a question. So the other person can either confirm or deny.

One of the tricks I learned from a lawyer I worked for in my union days was that anytime I had a verbal discussion with a manager was to follow it up with a written letter ( or later e-mail ) recapping the conversation and my understanding of what they said.  And it always invited them to correct any misunderstandings.  This had the effect of memorializing the conversation and making it "evidence" if they did not reply OR force them to clarify the remark they made.

Guess what?  They ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY HATED IT when I did that because their lawyers told them what I was doing.  But it didn't matter because once the conversation is reduced to writing they couldn't lie about it any more and they lied as second nature if given a chance.  I of course did not give a rat's ass if they liked me or not.  In fact, politically it helped to be seen as an enemy of the management but you may find that technique less effective here.

Not much, okay.

Vic, this is me.

I don't know what I have done to make people doubt my sincerity or think that I am not the person I say I am.

If you decide to get a facebook account, then please add me. I'm very active on there and you can see how I live my life and how I interact with my friends and family. I have nothing to hide, and have been nothing but myself on here.

You and a boatload of others are missing the point. I have to agree with Nap here. Your sing-songy agree to disagree 'I respect your opinion' routine is intellectually frustrating and insultingly dismissive. Just to make sure my sentiment is properly expressed; although you and Randy share the same beliefs, I can easily extend a modicum of respect his way simply for the conviction of his belief no matter how bat-shit crazy the beliefs are.

You don't seem to like the anti-religion posts, yet you come onto an atheist forum, I don't know what you're supposed to expect. Everyone being completely peachy towards religion. No, we have legitimate criticisms, and you act like these bad things don't occur in religion of the world, or act like you've never heard of someone using religion for immoral reasons. I know you're not one of these evil goofs in the world. It's nice to have a kind theist here, but I'm not the only one to notice this ongoing act of cluelessness. I've seen many posts on here, with people debating you, and many good points were made, and it's like they're forgotten or something. It's like everyone is completely wasting their words with you (which is practically every theist on here), that actually would like you to see how clearly made-up this stuff is, and you don't give it a second thought. Which is fine, you're allowed to, but don't act like, "Oh, my gosh, people persecute people in the name of religion, no way??" "There's evil in the bible, and the catholic church promotes immoral acts, according to free-thinking individuals? I've never heard of anything like that in my life.." Not actual quotes, but you get the idea, hopefully. Someone needs to say something. Even, if you think about some of the things people are arguing against regarding your position, good for you, if that's actually happening. Even, if you don't come to the same conclusions, ok, not everyone is going to see what we see, but come on...  A few of us have noticed this cluelessness on your view of what catholicism and christianity can do in the world.

I disagree with a lot of you here that C_L is being disingenuous about how she relates to people here, at least in her attitude. She's been consistent. Also, seeing her FB page, she at the very least has a consistent online persona.

However, I agree wholeheartedly with people who are pointing out your rose colored glasses when it comes to your religion and it's views and effect on social issues.

My biggest issue with you, C_L, is your refusal to acknowledge what Catholicism is responsible for. You say the Church doesn't propagate sexual repression and shame and yet that is the most ubiquitous fact about Catholic childhood that people relate once they escape. It's as common as a communion wafer.

I think, intellectually, you know that teaching contraception would reduce teen pregnancies more than teaching abstinence only, but you won't admit that either.

One look at a Pew study about attitudes towards homosexuality shows a majority of Christians have negative attitudes towards gays. But you've never met one? Not in your church? Bullshit. That's like me saying I've never met an angry atheist.

You are very nice, and I like you a lot. You are by far the best theist we've had on here in a long time. I just think you are hung up on portraying the perfect Catholic rather than being a human. I think people pick up on that and that is why you are seeing these reactions.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Didn't you know, Becca? The only way it's possible for anyone to have respect for me is if I have bewitched them. Or, if they are just pretending because I "sucked their d_cks", as Napoleon said. Tongue
