I'm big into fantasy stuff too, yet I didn't get around to reading or watching LOTR until this decade. And I'm 34. Maybe I'll check out TGC too.

Just wathced Wayward Pines this weekend.. binged watched on demand... It's pretty much childhood indoctrination. They are the future who will grow to have the values the people behind the scenes want you to have and they control the rest of the population with fear... sounds about right...

Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber.  The story focuses on a "Superhuman" that is basically a god to normal humans.

Religion reminds me of zombie movies. It starts with a few zombies who seek out living humans and bite them to turn them into zombies, then those new zombies form an ever bigger stronger pack and thus seek out more humans to bite.
