It's not the only thing it's founded upon though, although, I would say it's the most important and the most emphasized one of God's Names in Quran (Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem (The compassionate, the Merciful).

God doesn't enter into it though does he?

Couldn't.  Doesn't exist.

If you believe there is some extra special about love compassion empathy and friendship, I think you would see a divine basis, a spiritual reality behind this, and it's not simply a program and experience created through chemicals in our brains.

Honor, praise, greatness, goodness, all this would just be in our heads, with no real truth to them.

So? Do you have any evidence that these are not 'just in our heads' ?

What do you mean by evidence? Depending on your definition, I may or may not have some. I definitely on a clear proof that these have reality and truth and can remind people of what they experience of these clear proofs and knowledge.

Well of course they experience it. But what makes you think any of these things have an existence outside of someone's head?

The ostensible lack of profundity of the origin of something that is ostensibly profound itself, does in no way mean it cannot be the origin of that seemingly more meaningful result.

That would be the genetic fallacy.

The very experience of it.
