Talking to children about death
#11
RE: Talking to children about death
It was mighty hard talking to my son about it. His mother had breast cancer and at one point it had metastasized and she was given months to live. Jake was five at the time. We spoke plainly about what death was -- "It's like sleep and you never wake up again", about burial, about seeing her in Heaven ("You're not, son.").

It was heartbreaking at times, because he was scared, but we talked about our fears for her and cried together. His mother and I had always agreed that we weren't going to lie to our son, and we didn't.

As it happened, his mother survived and is doing well.
