Actually I was thinking more of a situation where its a simple mistake with a already made bio weapon.

Nature is quite good at fixing itself, so I am not too worried on that end. If the earth does perish, it'd most likely by a human screwup.

It is but it won't make humans extinct. The middle East will be a big parking lot sure, but the rest of the world will probably survive okay.

I gotta go with the asteroid impact mainly because of the likely reactions of earthly powers.

The US will want to blow it up.
Russia will want to annex the eastern part of it.
China will try to buy it.
The E.U. will offer it asylum and welfare.
And Texas will declare it a government plot.


We'll still be arguing when it hits.

I think polution, climate change and over cusumption of resources has the potential to lead to a nuclear war. That certainly can knock us back into the stone age.

Outside that, knowing the planet has had 5 mass extictions since the start of evolution, even without our own hand, it is highly unlikely our species will survive up until the death of our sun.

I feel like nuclear war is the most obvious. I can't believe it hasn't happened already (there have been very near misses I understand).

I'm also somewhat concerned about unfriendly AI. We have a tendency to not realized the long term effects of our technology until it's fucking us in the ass.
