I didn't wait to get notified. I just dl'd the windows 10 as an iso and it installed perfectly.
I read you can do a clean install but only if the license version allows it.
As long as you enter the serial.
Eg: you can only do a clean install for an OEM license on the original hardware.
No enterprise, volume license, msdn, etc are acceptable.
Having said that, ages ago, I installed a windows 7 ultimate from one of my msdn available keys and it detected it as a retail win7 and upgraded fine.  The iso dl was only 3 gig.

Yeah the licensing does seem to matter. The installer won't accept my volume license key if I try to do a fresh install, but the upgrade will. I have Windows 7 Home Premium OEM licenses for most of my hardware but I'm really not interested in trying a fresh install with them now that the upgrade to 10 Professional is complete, and I was only interested in trying a fresh install out of curiosity more than anything.

1. It's a free upgrade now, but not after a year.

2. Windows 7 mainstream support ended in January of this year.

There's supposedly performance increases over 7. If so, they're imperceptible.

No idea. You can change it to login with a PIN instead of a password.

The single biggest performance increases I have ever seen were all hardware related. Especially since M$ has a tendency to hang on to dead, unused code.

The grand mass does the bug testing for them,money saved.

Microsoft are such clever people,they write similar looking software for PC,mobile,tablet and then they only have to write code once and they can ship all they want,instead of writing the code for different platforms separately - more money saved.

They are trying to "standardize",that is their vision,windows everywhere.I personally think tiles look ugly in my PC,but it's a cool look on a WP.

Someone asked since when programs are called apps.Well,its because Microsoft wants to increase the total number of apps available in their store - to promote their mobile devices claiming that they have a tremendous increase in the number of apps being made and they would quickly surpass their competitors.
The truth is,granted they have a not-too-bad number of apps,most of them are shit,i'm not even kidding,they really are,in terms of funtionality,plus app updates for Microsoft are always late.

WP would be a really good device to grab if it had a great variety of apps and maybe,just maybe,if they hadn't put too many hurdles for developers,they'd have had a lot more improvement in the number of apps department.
I thought it'd be a good idea to grab a Lumia 830,my experience was so bad,i am never ever going to the dark side again.

aside from the horrendous ridiculous invasion of privacy that is in windows 10, I think it's a pretty good OS.

so what if they make the users give the bug reports for them ? it's a clever, money & time saving way to do bug testing.

There are actually three reasons why I'm not getting it now.

1) I'm running win 7 ultimate and nothing in the download option says what version of 10 I'm supposed to get.

2) Knowing Microsoft, we are indeed beta testers and waiting some 6 months seems like a valid strategy.

3) I just got Fallout 3 to run smoothly on my multicore 7 system.

And there's actually a 4th reason. Never change a winning team unless you have a good reason to do so. And my system runs smoothly and bugfree. From what I was able to gather about the new features in 10 - I don't really need them. What's more, I know my system inside out. So troubleshooting is easy, since I know where to go.

Just downloaded Windows 10. Trying it out. So far, it seems okay. I haven't tried it enough to give an opinion one way or the other. Anybody else have it yet?

I wouldn't do that to myself. With the tons of backdoors and the keylogger integrated into the system for Microsoft to steal sensitive personal data (such as passwords and private chat logs) - thanks but no, thanks. Not to mention the idiotic forced imposing of updates - you'll receive updates whether you like it or not. Windows 10 is dictatorship.
