The Reason Rally
August 12, 2015 at 10:59 pm
I just wanted to ask if anyone on the forums attended the Reason Rally in D.C.? (if you are from the US)
If you did, how did you like it and will you attend the next one? Anyone that didn't go in 2012 thinking of going in 2016?

I've never been. I'm only 3 hours from DC, though. I suppose I should go, if for no other reason than to be counted.

This year's Reason Rally seems to have lots of promise. Penn Jillette will attend and give 15 minutes speech, but also Johnny Depp will be on stage at the Lincoln Memorial on June 4. Even in 2011 on Larry King he talked about not being into religion: I have faith in my kids. Yeah, I have faith in my kids. And I have, I have faith, you know, as long as you keep moving forward, just keep walking forward things will be alright, I suppose, you know. Faith in terms of religion, I don’t, religion is not my specialty.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
