If you're writing an essay to define the word atheism, you're doing it wrong.

Defining myself as an atheist: a response

I don't believe in deities.

I have not been provided with evidence that would convince me to change my mind.

The "evidence" I have so far been provided includes, but is not limited to:

- "I once saw..."
- "Look at the world..."
- "The bible says..."
- "You'll burn if you don't believe..."

And other such nonsense.

Ah, I remember the first time I seen this argument. They had a whole DVD dedicated to it. Ruined bananas for me.

Can I still keep the first definition please? The one you don't like because you can't accuse it of being hypocritical and unfounded, "no better than religion"?

So what exactly do you expect us to do - change our beliefs to suit the definition of atheism you're comfortable with?

Most of us here (and probably most atheists everywhere) simply lack a belief in God. Get used to it. If you don't like "atheist" as a word to describe this belief, perhaps you can invent such a word.

And as somebody who has lived in the American Southwest, Guam and Florida for all but one year since 1986, your tirade against shorts is fucking idiotic. I don't even own a pair of long pants and haven't since 1995 when I left the U.S. Air Force. Fuck you if you don't like it.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Ray Comfort's banana?

That guy is such a clown.

You know you're truly stupid when other creationists distance themselves from you...

LMAO! I didn't know other creationists distanced themselves from him. That makes it even more hilarious.

If the phrase 'lacking belief in gods' isn't a good definition of 'atheism', then 'cup made to hold coffee' is a lousy definition of 'coffee cup'.
