A. Yes. And I know of devout/practicing Christians who I consider good people.

Just because I may disagree with someone on their religious affiliation, their political views, or what have you, that doesn't mean that I automatically think of them as a bad person.

Of course Christians can be good people. They are still people.

I have a couple of devout mom's in my Girl Scout troop, baptists both of them, and they are both very nice people who do well by their families and the community.

Let's say someone is a Christian - a devout, sincere Christian (this test works for any religious affiliation, btw). This person is a good person, by any metrics that matter. They give to charity, help their neighbours, they're active in their community, they don't abuse their kids, and so on. By practically any criteria you can think of, this person qualifies as good.

Then one day, they lose their faith (how they lost it is immaterial ((no pun intended)) ). They odds that this person will start ignoring the poor, snubbing their neighbours and kicking their children are so small as to not be worth considering.

People are good, bad or indifferent in spite of their religious beliefs, not because of them.

I've known several people who were devout in their faith and who were unquestionably good people. However, I don't think in any case that it was their faith, per se, that made them good.

On a side note, one of my favorite Christians whom I've personally known was this priest in Fargo, ND. I was acquainted with him during the mid to late '80s. He was notable for being heavily involved with Amnesty International and for his involvement with sheltering and, in some cases, trying to smuggle into Canada a number of Salvadorean and Nicurauguan refugees who were fleeing almost certain death at the hands of U.S.-sponsored death squads. He was jailed numerous times for these activities, which he considered a moral duty. The kicker was that he was the brother of North Dakota's then-Governor, which caused the Governor no end of P.R. headaches.

Is it possible for a person who is a devout/practicing Christian to still be someone who you would consider a good person?

A. Yes. And I know of devout/practicing Christians who I consider good people.

B. Yes. Even though I don't know of any devout/practicing Christians who I consider  good people, I believe in the possibility that they could exist.

C. No. I have never known of any devout/practicing Christians who I would consider good people, and neither do I think it is a possibility for such people to exist.

I consider my grandmother a good person. I just think she's wrong when it comes to religious beliefs. You can disagree with someone, and still think they're good in general. Just ill informed on some subject. I think that's why people come up with a rule that you're not supposed to bring up religion and politics, because some people can get heated about those things.

I know a number of decent people of various religions.

One of the most decent people I've encountered is a Muslim doctor.
