"All Scientists Should Be Militant Atheists"

I remember reading the bog of a creationist who seemed to be an actual, creditable scientist. Can't remember his name right now - just a mention that yes, it is entirely possible that there is one. Wink

The Creation Institute (now called the "Discovery" Institute to hide its intent somewhat, when attempting to slide Intelligent Design into schools as what one judge called "stealth Creationism") are experts at giving the appearance  of being scientifically credible. It's what they do for a living.

As someone who actually had to bother with the very difficult process of learning what biology really does and doesn't say, and why this is so, I get very irritated at those who set out to fool the layperson (generally with pretty graphics and big-sounding words) into thinking that there is a real "debate" within science about whether evolution or ID/IC/Creationism are more legitimate.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Definitely. There is no serious debate.

For one thing, ID/creationism is not a scientific hypothesis. It makes no testable predictions.

It probably depends on the field. If it's about electronics or something entirely technical, I see no problem. If it is about biology in it's broadest sense, there will be problems.

I'm glad you cleared that up for me, 'cause that was a total mystery.  Big Grin

It was a biologist. The name is in the stupid brain somewhere. I'll let it simmer and check for condensate later on.  Wink

Checked my stupid blog in case I linked his, but no; went to have a look and found this character which made me think I may not remember him by trying to find him. 'Cause I'm fried.  Big Grin

Ooooooooooh, I like that guy! Just spent a few minutes poking around his blog. He's fair to atheists and is possibly harsher on the Creation Institute jackasses than I would have been. If more Christians sounded like him, I would still be an atheist, but I'd have a far, far better opinion of the faithful.

Yep, "militant". Thats a good description. Because being an outspoken person without faith is on a par with being a member of an armed faction attempting political change. No change required there at all.
Oh but be sure you all call yourselves "Brights". That'll make people hate us less for sure.

So wait, a biologist?

Hmm. Does he just totally turn his creationist story off when he goes to work? Kudos if he's able to do that I suppose. One little story for home time to make you feel nice, and a whole other blank slate when you get to doing the science.

It boggles my mind, but then most things do.
