The "choice" anyone makes to go to hell is at best the same "choice" someone has as to whether to hand their wallet over to an armed assailant. Not to mention praying to the wrong God with the best of intentions. Is that choosing hell? Fuck off is it.
And sensible beings wouldn't hold people to a single, finite choice forever, giving them no chance to redeem themselves or learn something.
Forever. Again with the silly superlatives. Religion doesn't dare say a number in case I say one bigger.

Yeah.... if you don't do everything the way that particular batch of theists wants you to. Fuck them. Hell is a human invention....and so is 'god.'

He chose not to do so.
Some of the Christians here at AF have argued that anything like real, irrefutable evidence would somehow violate God's respect for our free will. Of course, it's just shameful bullshit designed to maintain the evil doctrine that faith is a virtue and to derail any conversation in which they're pressed to present good evidence.
In other words, God's salvation scheme, as some present it, is a game rigged in favor of the gullible, the mentally infirm, the emotionally needy, and those most likely to mind fuck themselves. Impressive.

This has always been my argument against the "free-will" trope: Hell for eternity isn't free will. If it is, you may as well find the armed robber innocent, because the victim surrendered his wallet willingly.
It is not free will if one's soul is held hostage.

Crossless: I agree, the free will thing is bollocks. Sure, if God turned up, I'd believe it existed. I wouldn't however start worshipping it as a reflex action. This is the point many religious folk seem unable to comprehend. I reserve the right to talk to it sensibly, or tell it to fuck off if I don't like the cut of its jib.

Hmm, the devil had free will and went against God, so he was made the ruler of hell with personal demon assistants. Adam and Eve were initially loyal so they were allowed to stay in a jungle.
So by my estimates, you heathens are all gonna get your personal hell and servants and all the power you want. True believers will get to fuck animals in a jungle.

The idea that a massive number of kind, just and loving people will be sentenced to the ultimate suffering and torment forever is insane. Theists may chime in with some wisdom on obedience, gifts and grace, but it has no bearing on the bigger issue. To describe God sentencing good people to an infinite Hell as an overreaction, doesn't do it justice. It's beyond an overreaction. An implementation so unreasonable and unfair, so over-the-top that I'm having difficult time understanding why I ever believed any of this.
But, keeping with the premise that all of this happens to be true....good grief, we're all screwed aren't we? As in all of humanity. A completely unreasonable, highly sadistic maniac is running the show. He's not made himself very clear....and he likes setting people up. That combination doesn't bode well for any of of us, does it? Can worship really tip the scales? Why bother? When discussing hell it pays to remember that they vary depending on the religion. Some are a lot worse than others. You would never, ever want to end up in the Islamic hell. Buddhism has a lot of different hells. Zoroastrian hell is bad. Christian hell might be bad but everyone gets out on Judgment Day. And just because a person was in Christian hell it won't prevent him from getting into the gaudy bejeweled golden cube called New Jerusalem, but only if he's a Jew since there's no entrance for Gentiles. The Christian hell borrowed a lot from the Zoroastrian hell.
In Christianity if you don't go to hell then you end up in the sea or in death. But they are all temporary. After Judgment Day there will be no more death, seas, or hell. But you can end up in the lake of fire. Personally I think the lake of fire is better than being tossed into the Islamic hell. It's really nasty there with all kinds of eternal tortures.
It seems that most people mix up all of the hells and actually think of the Islamic hell when discussing the topic of hell. You don't make bail in the Islamic hell.
