To be fair, Dawkins isn't a militant atheist for the sake of atheism. It's because he's a scientist, a biologist and got tired of religion getting in the way of facts. All he wants is the truth. And as a biologist myself I understand his point of view. I get incredibly frustrated when I hear people try to deny evolution, calling it 'just a theory', telling people to 'teach the controversy'. There is no controversy, I bet 99% of biologists accept evolution, it's a fact, a proven, demonstrable fact. And once you start with evolution, it's hard to stop getting annoyed whenever the truth of something else is being obscured by religious feelings or dogma.
