The other night I was blind-drunk. Well not blind, but I was on bookdepository.com and was going to buy a book. But then I went to abebooks.com instead and found the same book sold by bookdepository for less. So I bought it there (I'm not an idiot!). I entered my credit card number 5131-5331-3351-1353 (or whatever it was) and the expiry (from memory of course - I was drunk I didn't have time to find my wallet), and I forgot all about entering the CCV number (which FYI is 513 or something like that). But I got a confirmation email, and a week later the book! LOL.
I'm not even joking you could go to abebooks right now and repeat the process (although I suspect it's because the vendor on abebooks - bookdepository - didn't need it so you mileage may vary if selecting a different vendor).

The cvv is not mandatory just as address verification is not mandatory when going through some gateway providers, though they are recommended.

"Address verification" is not legal in Australia, thank Christ.
Of course I had an issue with that once, and I emailed the vendor and said "WTF is this 'address not verified' shit, you can't ask for my bank address you know" they wrote back and said "yes we can" so I called them and explained to them that we don't put up with that privacy invasion, and they didn't believe me (but took my credit card on the phone). Fucking stupid yanks.
Anyway you can Google it. It's against the code for Australian banks to pass on ANY information about their customers to 3rd parties including answering "yes/no" questions.

The bank account I use the most I have memorized the # for.

I used to have the number for my debit card memorized because three of the four four-digit sections ended in 3 and the other 3s were all in even-number positions (X3X3) so it made it very sing-songy to remember. Then someone ripped my card off so my bank replaced it with a craptastic, completely awful, not easy to remember number. I don't have that one memorized. Not even close.
I also know my mom's driver's license number because it's sing-songy in a similar way: when you say it it's three-syllables, three-syllables, two-syllables, three-syllables. When I would be with her grocery shopping as a kid and she'd pay for a check she'd always recite her driver's license number to the cashier since in had to be written on the check, so that's how I came to know it.
My credit card was just recently replaced and came with that chip reader in it like all the credit cards in Europe have. I was stupidly excited when I saw it, and am stupidly excited for when my new debit card comes and it has that chip in it.

I do not have my credit card numbers memorized because it would be a waste of effort. I do not need to know the number of any of my credit cards. They are conveniently printed on the cards themselves in case I ever need them. And they are also on the bills, so even if the cards get lost or stolen, I would have the numbers for reporting them (which, however, would not be essential, as they will be very interested in canceling the cards just from my name and address, as they will be stuck with the loss, not me).
I think a better question would be, why bother to memorize them? Of course, if one memorizes them accidentally due to entering them for online ordering, then that is something quite different from taking the trouble to try to memorize them.

I can't be bothered memorizing them, either.

After about the first ten times I used it, I'd have a hard time *not* remembering it.

Nope. Not that important.

I think I remember.... 2 4-diget sequences. My mind flipflops numbers, I have to use patterns (usually physical ones), and unfortunately for me: i don't get to pick them. The 2 sets that I DO remember, I mean... I can't even call to mind right now. I could only do them while specifically entering the numbers, having just entered the numbers that I don't remember from before them.
Even if I did memorize the numbers: I have absolutely no trust in my ability to put them down correctly without examining (and cross examining) between what I've entered, and the card's written numbers, multiple times. I can't go over them enough times, sometimes.
My social security number is the real pain in the ass, though... I don't have it written down, and somehow whenever I do write it down: i forget where it is. So... I end up calling my mother for it, every time I need it, pretty much.
