Cop gets punished for failing to shoot and kill a black man

In a long feature article, ProPublica in partnership with PBS FRONTLINE’s podcast series, The FRONTLINE Dispatch, chronicles the story of a police officer who was fired after an encounter with a distraught black man. The cop was discharged for failing to shoot him. Another officer who arrived at the scene shot the man dead.

The article tells the story of Stephen Mader, a young rookie officer called on the scene in Weirton, West Virginia. A vet who’d served in Afghanistan, Mader joined the police department in what was referred to by civic leaders as one of the safest small cities in America.

It seems the West Virginia police have their own "prime directive."

We have people protesting police violence, while police chiefs fire officers for failing to shoot people dead on scene. I guess it's a good thing he got fired before he was corrupted.

Cop Pulls Over Single Mom

On Nov. 14, Nierman got pulled over by Hendricks County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Evan Love for speeding shortly after dropping her daughter at a baby sitter. And she wasn't only speeding -- she was driving with expired license plates.

The police officer told the mom that if she got her plates renewed within a week, he'd tear up her speeding ticket.

"I gave her my business card," Love said. And when Nierman emailed him to let him know she had gotten her plates taken care of, the officer kept his promise and scratched off the ticket.

Last Saturday, Nierman got an unexpected visit in the Ulta Beauty store she works in.
"I saw a family walking up, a man, a woman and two kids," she said. "He started talking and I said, 'I know you!'"
Love gave Nierman a Christmas card with "something special" to help her out during Christmas. When she went back to her car to open the card, Nierman found a $300 Target gift card inside.

Cops are clearly out of control.  Something must be done!!

It sort of feels worse when we see a cop that treats white people nicely, but shoots a black person. It means they know how to act right. They're capable of emoting properly as a Human being. They just shut it off if your skin is too dark. It's like, I'd kind of understand if you legitimately have some kind of malfunction where you don't know how to process empathy, and need some sort of mental help. But if you can see a white person break the law, and show civility and leniency, but shoot a black person in the face because he moved wrong, or just because he was outside while black, then you're a real sick piece of shit.

Exactly.  If there were a rash of cops shooting cute little white girls the prior story might have an impact.  As is, it merely highlights the disparity.

Nearly 60 people gathered outside the Elgin Police Department yesterday demanding to know why 34-year-old Decynthia Clements was fatally shot by Elgin Police officer and why the video of the shooting has yet to be made available to the public. Clements, a black woman, was shot and killed by white police officer Lt. Christian Jensen.
