There is no good reason this cop shouldn't even be charged. It's about the most blatant sign of corruption possible, yet somehow they pulled it off.

You can't even arrange for a kangaroo court to declare his innocence, what did you expect, even that theatrical admission would erode the seeming invincibility of law enforcement immunity. Calm the plebs with a show trial? Nah, fuck em. They're plebs.

The family claimed from the start that the DA was far more concerned with his relationship with the police department than he was about the case.
It seems they were right. The Grand Jury system gives him cover to blame someone else but listening to him talk it sure sounds as if he grabbed them by the nose and led them down the path he wanted.
Such things will continue to happen until people get off of their butts and take control of the system. The thing is that systems around the world are corrupt so almost the world's entire population is oppressed. That's one of the things that make religions so appealing. They promise a system where the judge (God) is completely fair and just and dispenses justice without bias.
The American system has gotten a lot worse in the last couple of generations than it has ever been and it was never that good. In a few years it will make previous totalitarian systems look like paradises.
