Determinism vs Free Will

RE: Determinism vs Free Will
What's not to like about fractals??

Ignorant of the maths (atm) but love them just the same.

I only get the general idea, but the explanations and findings in nature I read were along those lines. I could be completely barking up the wrong tree though, having not stayed in school long enough to fully understand the math.

I cannot remember which sci fi show it was possibly SG:Atlantis, but I like the one that says "the future is predetermined by the character of the people who make it" take that and add natural laws = future is predetermined.

Each aspect of my life is determined by the events that proceeded it, including those of my ancestors.

Many people say how "If determinism is true... then the future's inevitable". "If determinism is true you can't change the future".

But as Dan Dennett says "If determinism is false you can't change the future." Determined or undetermined, the future's inevitable.

The future is inevitable whether determinism is true or untrue... because the future is what is going to happen, and what is going to happen is going to happen by definition, of course that's unavoidable, inevitable - the future's the future, determined or not, it's inevitable.

Just thought I'd throw that in there lol.

The question than is not whether the future as a given result emerging from the now is inevitable, but whether it is fully determined by natural laws we are able to understand.

Yes, or whether it's truly more indeterministic and not "determined" at all.

So determinism doesn't imply inevitability is the point. That is a thousands of years old incorrect implication.

I don't know. I'm content either way.

If it is a hybrid of the two then it comes in the process of deciding what you value. From what I have observed people generally have relatively little difficulty executing a well defined plan. The most difficulty they have is deciding exactly which plan they want to go with.
