On Wednesday, the US commander in Afghanistan, Gen John Campbell, said that the crew of the AC-130 had mistaken the MSF clinic for a nearby security services building that had been captured by the Taliban.

The aircraft identified the building based on a visual description provided by Afghan forces.

"Tragically this misidentification continued throughout the remainder of the operation, even though there were some contradictory indicators," he said.

You can bet that someone will get rapped on the knuckles very sternly for this.  Probably the lowest ranking guy they can find.

Well, that directly contradicts the U.S.'s story that they intentionally targeted the hospital because they believed it was being used by the Taliban.

I, for one, am shocked...said no one.

The hospital should have had the required markings indicating that it was indeed a legitimate hospital.  The fools were in a war zone, after all.
