Yeah I can't do it. I'm shit at pretense and I just be myself. I'm a big softy.

I just try to advise 'my girl' to steer away from assholes and I support them but ultimately I let them be free and do whatever they want as long as they don't hurt me too much.

I think online dating services are made to order for gays and lesbians.  If you are only 2% of the population, a little networking help is in order.  I remember reading about some phone apps that will tell who, and give pictures of the gay men in your immediate vicinity too.  How useful that is will vary depending on the number of other people using the app, but it sure couldn't hurt.

I think online sites are tailor-made for everyone actually. Right from the start, you've got a pool that is "looking". Instead of hitting on random people, you already have saved so much time.

Then, it's just a matter of winnowing, selling yourself and hopefully finding the right person. In my own hetero-hunting experience, it sped up the process tremendously and now 7 years later, we're still going strong. She couldn't leave me if she tried! The restraints and window bars ensure that.

Of course, it doesn't hurt to be a silver-tongued devil and really, really, really, ridiculously good looking.

It's hard enough (no pun intended) for a straight guy where half the population is a potential partner. I can't imagine how hard it would be when you're limited to something like 1-2% and you can't even identify them. It makes the fundy assertion that homosexuality is a choice so laughable. Who would chose to put themselves in such a situation?

Heh heh heh

Kit, have you tried wearing a subtle rainbow accessory or looking for one on men you're attracted to?

Metropolitan Community Church.

I've been to a few services, and several social gatherings.  Obviously, it is a church, but my experiences with them have been uniformly pleasant.  Being upfront about the ath/ag issue would be advised.   I don't mean to belittle their beliefs, but the ones I've encountered seemed more or equally focused on gay issues than salvation.  Keep in mind most of the attendees at MCC have been drummed out of whatever church they grew up in, so there will be camaraderie and understanding even for atheists and agnostics that attend, that being a common result of other churches rejective policies.

A few friends of mine are big on gay nudist retreats.  I'm not, but it's an overlooked avenue for  meeting people.

Anyone with a need for 12 Stepping, it's very rare for a gay 12 Step group to not have social activities.  If one is not a 12 Stepper and attends any of their social activities, be advised dating a 12 Stepper isn't for every one.

Tongue

Craigslist has a 'platonic' section in most large cities, I haven't tried that category, and I can imagine results would be highly variable.
