RE: Emotional unloading
What I don't get about AA and the whole 12 stepping thing is the whole "higher power" BS.... aren't there any atheist AA alternatives?

Yes there are.  Or, at least, nonreligious AA alternatives.  See:

I'm sure there are more obscure ones but why does AA have to be the super big one?

Theres gay only chatrooms. Statistically people are generally going to the web when looking for a partner more often.
Its becoming a day to day thing.
It seems better than just shacking up with the first person you have an attraction to.
You can figure out if you have similar interests pretty fast.

Because you're gay you're kind of a rare commodity so thats something you have going for you.
Whoever you choose will be keen.

Some of the nonreligious ones are newer.  AA has been around a while.

I'd also recommend online dating, if you haven't tried it yet. I had a very specific set of criteria which meant that just meeting a person who met them all was bordering on impossible. But I found her, and now she's my wife Smile

I hope you find someone who will make you happy.

For gay people such as myself, we exist in the world and we have no true means of figuring out if someone before us is gay.  The gaydar is not a real thing.

The problem is that there exists this mindset that the individual before us is automatically straight.

How does a gay individual function when he wants to meet someone outside of the bar (gay bars are notoriously known for one night stands and long term non-platonic relationships cannot be found there).

How do I meet anyone in real life when every guy to whom I am attracted turns out to be straight?  Where are all the gay men?  Again, I return to the problem of seeing a man to whom I am attracted, unable to do anything except wonder or hope for a revelation.

I just want to find a great guy, but I cannot because this world is veritably against me finding him.

RE: Emotional unloading
I've tried internet dating and the problem is no girl ever messages me first and when I message them first, they rarely reply and when they do it's a couple of times and then they stop.
