Atheists interpret bible verses

RE: Atheists interpret bible verses
Why do you hate Ilúvatar, the Creator of All, Daniel?
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

It's an exhortation by Jesus to behave well or suffer death.   It's been used in the faith versus works debate on the side of works.  Also in the predestination debates on the side of predestination.  It's a little odd in light of later claims that mere belief in Jesus leads to everlasting life.

that's a bizarre interpretation.
sinners go to heaven.

Your analysis is upside down.
It's an exhortation by Jesus that behaving well won't save you from death. It's in favor of mere belief in Jesus leading to everlasting life; one strait gate/one narrow way.

Maybe fat people just get stuck in the pearly gates an have to wait until they weigh less like Winnie the Pooh stuck in Rabbit's front door. Tongue

Ah cool. So the title of the thread should really be "atheists interpret bible verses, then I tell them why they're wrong."

I mean, I figured it would devolve into that... but I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt that it would last past page 2

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

It would help if you Christians all agreed about what it meant. BTW, when Jesus said it, he hadn't been crucified yet, so the door to everlasting life via salvation was not yet open. There's a similar problem with John 11:25

Quote:Jesus said unto her, “I am the resurrection and the Life. He that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live;
