RE: Atheists, Do You Hope You are Right?

Do I hope that I am right? About god not existing, you mean?
I don't really give it much thought. But the question sounds to me like just another version of "but what if you're wrong?"
And that question is usually linked to the afterlife, and the threat of hell. I reject the existence of god and hell for many reasons, and I'm too tired right now to list them.
That "but what if you're wrong?" though, has been followed more than once with a "wouldn't you just keep going to church and praying, just in case?"
Just in case?? IF I am wrong, and there is a god who knows my thoughts . . . wow, the very last thing I would do, "just in case" would be to make my life a lie, and be false to my very core, by professing to believe something I do not just to save my bacon from frying in hell. A god who knows all would know I was a fraud, trying to con HIM into thinking I was devout. Yikes.
No Chad, if I am wrong, and there is a god, I'm going to enter eternity and go before god honestly. And if there is a god who is not a psychopath, god will understand the reasons for my lack of belief. That's the risk I'm willing to take.

Didn't I straight up answer your question, ChadDubs?
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:
"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."
For context, this is the previous verse:
"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

I'm not afraid I could be wrong, but I am afraid of what could be if indeed I am wrong. Hell just plain sounds mean, and heaven just has way too many contradictions and other problems to sound remotely likeable. It wouldn't be painful and scary, but kind of annoying and exhausting.

I hope I'm right that there is no cruel God out there or cruel fate for me and my loved ones eventually, but I'm absolutely sure the Christian god cannot be real. It's obviously too fake.

You're seriously going to call me disengenuous as you chop off almost my entire quote?

Listen, I don't care if I'm right because if I am wrong I am the safest form of wrong I can find. Worshipping false god/s would just be adding an extra charge to my ticket.
Add to it that I don't have to worship any fairytale villains and I just really can't see a better option.

You know, I never thought of Pascal's Wager like that, before.
I'd much rather explain to an Almighty Deity, upon Judgement Day, why I found the evidence of no gods whatsoever convincing enough to believe in any of them, than to explain to AD why I found some other god more convincing than her. Or him.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

I wonder how long a quote miner would keep quote mining if a quote miner got quote mined by another quote miner.

Do I hope I'm right?
No. "Hope" is a word those who are unsure of their beliefs or choices use. Also those who have no control over a situation and have no other means of reassuring themselves of a positive outcome (regardless of if a positive outcome is probable). If I weren't confident I was right about the 'standard' concept of 'god' being wrong, I would still be hedging my bets on going to church and saying my rosary every night.
