Stereotypes of Atheists
#51
RE: Stereotypes of Atheists
Binary religious thinking.

Life is simple when there's only two states anything can be in. God, or Satan. Good or evil. Objectively moral or objectively immoral. Absolutely true or completely false. People saying what is guaranteed to be true, or else willfully lying. Simple, instant explanation or magic. Eternally purposeful or completely pointless. Total order or complete chaos.

With us or against us.

I've been called lazy before, not because I'm an atheist though, but because it's true.

One that I think seems very prevalent is that people think we advocate for public sex out in the street. I hear that one come up a lot, usually in response to the morals debate.

Then there's "arrogant" and "smug", which I've actually been called both myself before
"Adulthood is like looking both ways before you cross the road, and then getting hit by an airplane"  - sarcasm_only

"Ironically like the nativist far-Right, which despises multiculturalism, but benefits from its ideas of difference to scapegoat the other and to promote its own white identity politics; these postmodernists, leftists, feminists and liberals also use multiculturalism, to side with the oppressor, by demanding respect and tolerance for oppression characterised as 'difference', no matter how intolerable."

Oh yeah, a few people seem obsessed with calling atheists "nihilists".

Or implying it. I even had an occupational therapist who when I said was an atheist she said "So you believe in nothing then?".

For fucks sake not only did she completely not understand atheism but it has fuck all to do with her doing her job.

Thankfully outside of that one thing she said she was a really great occupational therapist. But to be honest I've liked all the OTs I've had. I always found them more helpful than social workers, support workers, etc. The OTs always helped me get on with my life.

Haha! Believe in nothing? What on earth is that supposed to mean! There's nothing else to believe in except mythology?
