RE: Why Do Otherwise Intelligent People Succomb to Religion?

Belief in god is an emotional void filler and an inability to accept death as your life's conclusion.
Religion is simply a reaffirmation of this belief from peers. Organized Religion isn't an indoctrination into God, it's an indoctrination into the fear of arguing against people who share your same belief - resulting in a belief in god because of lack in individual thinking and a misguided indoctrinated virtue of "accepting" what people tell you is true, as the truth complimented with an ingrained fear of exploring opposition based on the organized religious values you were coaxed into from people with the same common misguided fear.

Thank you for expressing your opinion. I respectfully disagree since I know many religious people that do not match your descriptions.

Does Stockholm ring a bell?
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

So if you don't like the end of the story, why not rewrite the ending to one that suits you and makes you feel better?
People do it all the time.
Of course, that ain't the way the story really goes, but hey...

Because humans want to live past their sell by date.
