Bullshit.  They have "trained people with weapons" in the schools.  They call them "school resource officers" and they beat the shit out of the kids when they get bored.

I think we need more of that to keep the kids from beating up the principals.

Really? Why not dodge the bullets in slow-mo like they do in the f***ing Matrix? Why not fly at him at supersonic speed and melt his gun with your heat-vision? Why not call for army of archangels to disarm the assailant and throw him into the fire-pits of Hell?

I mean - if you're going to masturbate, fantasizing about what kind of a hero (as opposed to all those dumb losers, that got killed) you'd be in the statistically very unlikely situation like this - why stop at zig-zaging?

The problem with stupid people is that they don't realize how insanely stupid the sh*t they say is. I'm reminded of actor Mark Wahlberg's comments on 9/11:
Quote:"If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, 'OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.'"

Marky Mark is a f***ing retard - who knew?...
Anybody, who openly fancies themselves a hero in a situation they've never been in, deserves a smack in the face.

And on a side note - the idea of "training" the public to deal with deranged shooters is simply idiotic beyond belief. Mass shootings - while wildly publicized by blood-thirsty media - are extremely rare (and largely non-existent outside of war-torn 3rd World countries and USA), compared to virtually all other causes of sudden death. Way more kids die in traffic accidents each year, than in all the school-shootings over the last 40 years - combined...

You want to stop shootings - take the guns away from the public - it works in Europe. Or don't, have fun with your guns, consider the victims a necessary collateral damage (just like the traffic accidents victims) - and shut the f*** up about it... Idiotic solutions, aimed at distracting the public from the real cause of the problem - unsurprisingly - help no one. Except the people who profit from the sales of guns, I suppose.

Actually Nutter active resistance during a mass shooting is considered a viable option by the experts. I'm required to receive several security briefings every year including anti terrorism. For the last 3, 4 maybe 5 years now those briefings have included active shooter response. They basically tell you that if someone is in a room with a bunch of people shooting them the best way to stop him from killing the maximum amount of people is for several of them to rush him at the same time. Sure someone is probably going to get shot, but people are getting shot anyway so you really don't have a lot to lose.

Not something like a Steven Degal movie or John Wayne riding into the sunset. Takes trained people to deal with that. Not some wannabe hero, who hasn't got a clue.

Oh, and if you happen to end up in one, be ready to have some spare pants in your pack. If a coffin isn't your final destination, that is.
OK.  I hear you.  You can stand there and let him shoot you.  As for me, I'm gonna get moving.

No, you won't. Your shit would, but you won't.

Even if that's true - so what? It's still one of the most unlikely situations for anyone to face. And even if somehow it was possible to train every kid to swarm an armed assailant - without scaring them out of going to school altogether - what is to stop deranged maniacs from adopting new strategies, like sniping people through the windows, or whatever?

Personally - I don't really care. I went to school in a country where school shootings did not happen. I never had to be trained in sacrificing my life, for the sake of everybody keeping their assault rifles. But it strikes me like putting the cart in front of a horse, to teach paranoia inducing stuff to kids in order to prevent - at best - 0.001% of casualties happening each year in USA alone. It's just like we were taught - back in the 80's - to hide underneath desks in case of nearby nuclear explosions. It's just more of the security theatre - and it's more damaging when aimed at kids...

I've read that throwing things at the shooter helps. I sure hope I never have to find out.

So what is your condescending speech to Lek was uninformed. An no. I'm not a fan of Lek or Ben Carson, but that doesn't mean Lek needs to be berated for saying he would do the right thing. Chuck is right though in that he (Lek) might or might not be able to get his chair pulled out of his ass in time to react.

Waiting around for your turn to be shot doesn't seem like a reasonable strategy for sure - though this should not be read as an endorsement of anything that raving lunatic Carson has to say.

The fact of the matter is, you're never going to really know what you'll do until you're in that position. I've personally witnessed grown, otherwise tough men piss in their fatigues during live-fire training exercises.

I can't criticize someone for saying they'd put themselves in harm's way to protect others, even if there may be some wishful thinking involved.

What would think would be the best thing do in the situation we're discussing?

Your body and your mind will take care of that. People react differently. Planning is entirely futile, unless you're a trained professional, being used to that kind of situation.
