If it was a virus, there are many safe, free antivirus tools.  Search McAfee or Norton to start.  This is a good thing. It would be a free and easy fix then.  
My brother says that blue screens are often hardware-related.   The last time I got one, my laptop fan was dying.  I hope that is NOT the case.

Funny.... I just had, probably, my first win7 blue screen, too.
But mine was related to the graphics driver... there was a line about nv[something].dll... that nv tells you it's about nVidia.
If you rebooted and everything seems normal, just proceed as normal.

If you don't have any decent antivirus software, I advise the free Avira... av-comparatives claims that it's the best of the free ones.

Many times it is a bad driver somewhere.

What were you doing when it happened?  See if you can replicate the problem.

Keep that thing away from fabric!  No mattresses, pillows, etc.   
I have mine elevated on a wire shelf, so that air can always circulate around the vents.  (Repair guy's advice.)
If you have to have it near a bed, find a way to prop it on a small wooden shelf - metal tray - heck, even a shipping box is better than a mattress.
Laptops need circulation, they need to be kept as cool as is reasonably possible.  Overheating is BAD.

Run AVG then let that thing breathe!

Evie, that was going to be my first suggestion.

1) hardware failure
2) failed memory chip
3) corrupt ram due to malware
4) failing harddisk

The modern cpu's will stop themselves from burning out. It may be recoverable.
Let it cool down for an hour.

Turn it back on, it should be ok, run your scan then before it heats up again if you can.
Likewise, confirm the fan is working or not working. This is probably the most important step at this stage.

Go into "My Computer", right click on your primary drive, go to properties, and choose to do a full scan and make sure to check the option to automatically fix file system errors.

yeah.... AVG is one of the worst...

Also, NEVER have your laptop on your bed, nor anything malleable. It needs air to circulate in order to cool it.
Overheating is also a common source of blue screens... and... damaged components.

On win7, I have gadgets enabled so I can use the All CPU meter. Combined with Core Temp, you can get the cpu temperature in real time and its temporal evolution.
