Songs That Have Made You Cry
#11
RE: Songs That Have Made You Cry
This one makes me cry every time. I think it's because I've been *almost* Cathy too many times.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP0mFcHek9M

Her window was hung like a painting
She worried it might come to life
She stared for hours
So obsessed was I and self-absorbed
That I didn't see that she was crying

There was always someone carrying
There was always someone carrying
Always someone's carrying Cathy

There were times when I'd find myself saying
That friends, you don't understand
And she's different when it's just me and her
And I closed the door and I tried to hang on
And she sank into the dark, I was over my head

There was always someone carrying
There was always someone carrying
Always someone's carrying Cathy

We gave you everything
You could have been anything
We gave you everything
You could have done anything

But to imagine a fall
With no one at all to catch you
There'd always been someone

Then one night she climbed into the picture frame
Out in the frozen air and out of sight

Woke up sad from this dream
I've been having the last couple nights or so
With her father and brothers we're all at the funeral
Carrying a box through the rain

Then somebody says that it's always been this way
Always someone's carrying
There was always someone carrying
Always someone's carrying Cathy
Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.

Taken out of context, I can't think of one.

The ones in context are mine alone.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

RE: Songs That Have Made You Cry
Even though I loathe Country music, and the song is overtly Christian, this song never fails to move me to openly weeping.

If you're reading this,
My Momma sitting there,
Looks like I only got a one way ticket over here.
Sure wish I could give you one more kiss
And war was just a game we played when we were kids.
Now I'm laying down my gun,
I'm hanging up boots,
I'm up here with God and we're both watching over you

[Chorus:]
So lay me down in that open field out on the edge of town,
And know my soul is where my momma always prayed that it would go.
If you're reading this, I'm already home.

If you're reading this,
Halfway 'round the world,
I won’t be there to see the birth of our little girl.
I hope she looks like you; I hope she fights like me-
Stands up for the innocent and weak.
I'm laying down my gun, I'm hanging up boots.
Tell dad I don't regret that I followed in his shoes!

[Chorus]

If you're reading this,
There’s going to come a day
When you'll move on and find some one else,
And that's okay.
Just remember this:
I'm in a better place,
Where soldiers live in peace
And angels sing Amazing Grace!

[Chorus]
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Any song to which I don't own the licensing rights that winds up in a TV advert.

Probably sounds a little odd, but the dancing scenes in the movie Saturday Night Fever get me choked up too.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

RE: Songs That Have Made You Cry

There's some other songs that make me cry, but they're more for personal reasons like the first song I danced to at my wedding.  But this song just makes me cry for some reason.

Also the theme song for Finding Carter:

Wow, this is going to hit me very, very hard. One time, back in the day, my sweet Princess Sam put on the CD of her favourite film, threw her arms around my neck, gazed deep into my eyes and sang My Heart Will Go On specially for me. Just for me. For those few minutes, nothing else existed. Just Sam and me. Every word was just for us and us alone. Several years later, I made reference to it at her funeral when I stood up in front of everyone and read out my tribute - not a eulogy, they're for dead people - and led into a final playing of the song that meant everything to me. Now I can't stand to hear it; far too many memories.

I don't think I want to post it here, if it's all the same.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I went through a rough breakup when the first Adele album came out, and her music is always filled with such palpable sorrow for me. Her new song, "Hello," nearly fucked me when I first heard it. The lyrics are great. And she is one of the best singers out there today.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

RE: Songs That Have Made You Cry
Not necessarily cry, but when I first heard it with lyrics it shook my mind into complete numbness that took several days to recover from. Can't bear to listen to it still.

Though now that I think about it, I'm fairly sure there was some crying involved
