Never played the original but Diablo II and the Lord of Destruction expansion kick fucking ass.

The original blew me away more at the time than D2 did, tbh. I thought D2 was a fairly marginal improvement over D1.

Games like Dark Souls and Bloodbourne are on purposely hard, and I think what Evie was trying to get at is that older games don't try to be harder then every other game, it isn't the point in the game, unlike those too. Not saying its a bad thing, but i don't using those as examples of games that don't hold your hand was the great. 

I'm confused. Where did I say newer games were harder? Older games are much more difficult on average.

Sorry, should have clarified, it wasn't you say that said it. Faith No More made a point that newer games don't hold you hand as you suggested, and used Bloodbourne and Dark Souls as an example. I was on your side, I agree you are babied through games in general. Formulaic story line that has no repercussions if anything goes wrong, and it's just plain easy anyway. There are a few exceptions, but they certainly aren't the norm.
