I have had crippling anxiety in the past. I had it so bad I couldn't even open my post. I was getting professional help, and was also prescribed some medication. They told me to only take it when I really needed to, because it was very powerful stuff and can easily become addictive.
I took it a few times when the anxiety was absolutely unbearable, and it definitely helped a lot. I took their advice and resisted taking any more than absolutely necessary, and I found that just knowing the tablets were there for an emergency was comforting and helped me cope.
After lots of counselling and therapy, I managed to get through the worst of my anxiety and eventually I was able to cope again.
Rob - so much of that resonates with me. I'm glad to hear you're better.

Yeah, mostly. It's a work in progress, you know what I mean?

I remember when I used to go to summer camp, when my parents had me on add medication or whatever, they would be like "okay everyone come and take your meds" I just felt 'fuck you' for making it sound like it's just happy little "meds". It's embarrassing, I never wanted anyone to know that I was taking them, but they would just make it out to be no big deal. This is a long time ago though, I haven't taken any medication or gone to summer camp in ages. It's just something that has always sort of bothered me.
Meds, for me, it's a much less intimidating word. I'm sorry you've had a hard time with this in the past, but so you know, no one here is judging you. There's nothing shameful about getting help when you need it. Personally I think it's a brave thing to do.

I have a feeling that that would only alleviate the symptom, not the root problem, so no, I wouldn't. I would seek to understand what makes me anxious and then deal with that.

But I might be biased because of certain personal awful experiences I won't be sharing. At the end of the day, do what you think is best. That may not always be immediately apparent, so really think about it.

I talk to a psychologist twice a week, you have no idea what you're talking about. When your anxiety is regretting every awkward moment, feeling 'stupid' all the time, and hating being around people because it makes you sick, maybe you would try something too. I doubt you can really understand what it's like to go through, seeing you're a person who makes up assumptions, but I haven't had a social life since I was a kid, before I developed social anxiety.
God I'm so fucking pissed off.
