Abstract, logical and critical thinking skills often lead to atheism. But it doesn't work the other way around.

correlation between intelligence and atheism
|
There seems to be a very weak correlation, almost entirely in one area: on average, atheists are a little better at estimating things. Like whether two lines are really the same length. If an article I can't source was correct, anyway.
Interestingly, Christians in China do a little better than atheists on IQ tests. Maybe it has something to do with going against the flow. Whatever difference there may be, I expect it to decline as more Americans become atheists. When half the people are atheists, I doubt there will be any difference. When Christians are a minority, maybe they will average smarter than us.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

I don't rate IQ as being an accurate indicator of intelligence.
A weak correlation, at best.
There is a correlation, however, between educational level and atheism. The higher ones education level, the more likely they are to be an atheist. But that says nothing about innate intelligence. You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence. RE: correlation between intelligence and atheism

Just being arsed to read past page 2 or 3 of the Bible and think "yeah, complete BS" helps.
Or whenever that fucking talking snake appears. FFS.
Intelligence? No.
There's no denying Ben Carson is intelligent and a great surgeon. When it comes to many other subjects, he's proven time and again that he's as dumb as fuck. I agree entirely with Jenny's assessment. A corollary of ignorance being bliss I suppose.
So what about you, Sapho? Do you think atheists are usually smarter, or perhaps you think the opposite?

So much for my theory! *flicks over king and storms out*
