Episode VII (spoilers)

RE: Episode VII (spoilers)
I don't mind a well crafted female lead who can kick ass. However, the ease with which she does so makes a mockery of her as a heroine to admire. So she was born with lots of force. She needs to do no work to attain success. All she needs to to really let loose.

The key to rousing success is to have to do nothing really tough, or have no perserverence, just have a vast unearned inheritance. This seems to have been what the Rey character was about in this movie upon the final analysis.

What a pathetically shallow story.

I couldn't agree more.

Enjoyment of fiction unencumbered by too much dissecting of the plot, characters or technicalities is very different than unthinkingly accepting a fiction as truth.

For example, if I think about it too much I might start to not like the movie as much as I did. I might begin to dwell on little things like why that one storm trooper had a weapon than could go up against a light saber but Kylo Ren had to create his light saber from old technology. Or the "stop taking my hand!" hooey.

When dissecting a story starts to affect my enjoyment of the story, that's when I need to turn my brain off and just go with the flow. (While still acknowledging that it is fiction.)

I dissect stories because it allows me to enjoy more those stories which are really worth enjoying.

It's like being mindful of the fact that masturbation is not real, and refraining from overindulging in it, so as to heighten the enjoyment of real sex.

I was non-consensually subjected to a lot of Trek when I lived with my ex. Voyager was terrible, and I say that as someone who really wanted to enjoy Janeway. I could watch TNG only because I adore Patrick Stewart to no end. During one episode I remember, he was encouraging the Doc to follow him climbing out of some tunnel. I told my ex that Stewart could convince me to do anything. He's just that way.

The whole women empowerment in the movie was so obvious; I wanted to puke.
America is obviously a feminist nation. And now they are pumping their agendas into the movies too.

Get fucking bent. You have no idea what you're goddamn talking about.

Anom, I don't know what to tell you. I don't feel she had it too easy - there's nothing she did that required a ton of training. The podcast Current Geek really had it right: she does nothing she doesn't observe Ren doing first, so she's mimicing him with burgeoning powers. She already has some "sword" training just by being good with a staff. The troopers aren't that difficult to control.

My complaint is that it felt like too much had to get smooshed into one movie. It was like an Avengers movie: everything has to come together and get set up so all the spin-offs make sense. Well, it's happened - now we can move along with these characters WHO I LOVE.

I cried when I saw the opening logo and screen crawl.

I dissect stories, too (my fandom was Harry Potter), so I understand the notion that dissecting a story can enhance the enjoyment, but there can (and often is) a limit to how much dissection a story can withstand before you have to turn the brain off and just enjoy it for what it is. Different stories can withstand more scrutiny than others. This might be an example of a story that needs to be held at arms length - but I'm not apart of the SW fandom*. There could also be aspects of this story that are going to be revealed in the next two episodes, too, so the loose ends might end up being tied off.

* Like I said, I'm an HP fan, not a SW fan, and I will tell you on no uncertain terms that I despise the HP movies, except Prisoner of Azkaban because it's a beautifully filmed movie and two sequences of Order of the Phoenix, so I understand being hugely disappointed by your preferred fandom.

I am afraid if I turn off my brain so as to enjoy episold 7, then I wouldn't be able to turn it back on again.
