Otherwise I'm a blind fanboi so I loved it anyway. Kind of like religious people or people who use Apple products.

It *felt* like the original trilogy, so that made me happy.

It didn't feel it had the heft of any of the original 3 movies.

Movies 4-6 felt like a teenager's sci fi fantasy written by an adult.    7 felt almost like a preteen sci fi fantasy written by a teenager.

As far as story goes, even episold 1-3 had a lot more heft.  The main thing that made this movie more watchable then episolds 1-3 is Daisy Ridley actually put on a strong performance even though her character lacked even the emotional depth of Luke Skywalker in episold 4.

The Fin character, as a man trained from birth to be a regimented killer but who found his conscience, also had an enormous potential that was left virtually totally unexploited.

I think unlike Natalie Portman, Daisy Ridley has the ability to carry the entire trilogy with her acting if only given just the barest passable script.  Also she does a far better primal snarl than Hayden Christiansen, adam driver, or Ian Mcdiarmid.   Which sets her up ideally for an struggle against an inner demon resulting from a harsh orphaned upbringing, pulling her to the dark side, not just lust for power (Kylo ren) or a inner indiscipline coupled with evil temptation from without (Luke and anakin).    Let's hope JJ Abrams and his Disney cronies won't ruin her career before it started, like Lucas almost did with Portman's.

I am always happy to be surprised. If I am predisposed to hate it, I wouldn't have paid to see it.

The cinematography was very reminiscent of the original trilogy.

The cinematography was very reminiscent of the original trilogy.

Rather, it copies the form, almost duplicating the set,  without attaining much of the substance.

In Episold 4, Tatooine was a world.    Here Jakku is a cliche.   Are there no other form of harsh desolation, marginal and decrepit existence that Abrams can imagine?

But fine, it's not a huge problem.  We get it.  Ren was abandoned as a young child, effectively orphaned and without even a kindly aunt or uncle to look after her. She had a tougher childhood than anakin, far tougher than Luke's, and perhaps that in some ways made her far more mature than either.

I will see the next movie to see what the trilogy makes of this.  But my guess is nothing.

Also, fin is liberated from a life time of harsh regimentation, almost made into a killer automaton, but who is now no longer so willing to kill, would he just blend seamlessly into the group as one of the boys by the next movie?  Probably, but I will see to find out.

The force is suppose to be strong with Carrie fisher too.  Is sensing when someone she cares about dies or is in deep trouble the only thing she would do with it?

I see no evidence of Portman's career being almost ruined by her association with Star Wars:

That's one of the biggest failed Chekhov's Gun parts of the original series to me. When Obi-Wan says "that boy is our last hope" and Yoda says "No, there is another" referring to Leia - and then nothing ever happens with Leia! She's never acknowledged as having the force, or any powers beyond being able to insult Han, so WTF was the point of that line other than to set up the Luke and Leia incest-fest? I hope in the coming movies they at least address Leia's supposed powers with the force.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.

I hated episode I and II and III was "meh" so I'm not excited about watching episode 7.

Besides I thought there was always supposed to be 6?

I loved the original trilogy.

I thought Ep II and III had a lot of fun cool moments. Ep I had.... Uh... a cool lightsaber battle.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

It's the story. It's all about the story. And the characters

I only liked the story and the characters in the original trilogy. I mean and--Darth Vader!!!
