They were very careful with all the trailers to show only Fin using a lightsabre and it wasn't until the movie that you saw that the Force sensitive is actually Rey.

I have a suspicion that her heritage may surprise us all.

Obi-wan had a baby with Jabba the Hut?

I think she's one of Luke's students that escaped Kylo's slaughter of the padawans. She was dropped off at Jakku to be hidden away. That being said, she could still be Han and Leia's daughter; when they were talking to Maz she asks Han who she is, then we cut to her finding the saber and Maz shows up and knows a lot more about her. Han must have told her. Or it could be she's an unrelated student that Han knew about, or maybe he pieced it together after being with her for a while.

Well, who was she so steadfastly waiting for?  It must, we'd believe, be her parents, and we know that Luke has been in self exile.  Could it be that Luke secreted her away, much as he had been with his aunt and uncle, to keep her safe? Could it be that when she looks up to find Luke, who she knows as a famous name, it's her father standing there, and she'd known him by a different name?

That would seem too obvious, but it also seems pretty likely to me.

On a different subject-- did everyone else notice that Han Solo called his son "Ben," as in Ben Kenobi?

Perhaps with Countess Celine (sp?) of Mandalor (ref to the Clone Wars animated series.  This, perhaps, his grand daughter?

Then that would mean that Rey and Ren are related in very interesting ways.

A friend told me that he enjoyed the movie and then, afterwards, when seriously thinking about it, he started pulling the story apart - just as many Abrams movies can be pulled apart.

I found myself doing the same.

I thought it was a sleeper.  The entire series is about a gang of bad guys who the audience is fooled into believing are the good guys.

I don't see why Rey has to be related to any of the main characters. There are naturally force sensitive characters in the universe, e.g. Maz. The original Jedi weren't all related to each other. She could have been dumped on Jakku by her parents because she was causing problems being force sensitive.

Anyone notice Princess Leia wearing a Flying Spaghetti Monster ring?

I honestly don't know.

I just have a feeling about it.

I could be completely wrong, I just thought it was too obvious for her to be Luke's daughter, considering the lengths they went through to mislead people in the lead up to the movie release.

In the books their were 3 solo children a set of twins (boy and girl) and their youngest son was named anikin.
The boy went all darkside while the girl chose light. and they battle it out muck like E.7

So their is a possibility they are related. After all their was a level of hate ben had for rey that was kinda unexplained.
and the mind probe where they can take from each others thoughts does harken back to luke/leigha and luke/vader (it would also explain her quick ablity to tap the force.. She simply took or Ben's light side training from luke simply imprinted on to her when she was digging around in his head.

But, again I could have sworn that the little bug eyed lady said this saber belonged to your father.. Talking about luke/anikins blue blade light saber. Now granted their was 35 years between when luke's hand was removed grasping that light saber, and obviously someone owned it or had possession of it otherwise it would still be on bespin/cloud city...

Yeah my wife said leigha probably named him because of her connection/respect she had for him in a new hope.
