Welcome.

She meant we don't believe anything in particular as atheists. We might hold beliefs in our capacity as humans, but atheism in itself expresses no beliefs whatsoever, simply a failure to be convinced that any gods exist.

GiL- All jokes aside, if you're truly here to understand us better, to get to know us directly instead of believing the slanderous bullshit too many preachers and religious zealots assign to us (we make jokes about atheists eating babies, as a way of satirising these accusations), then you are more than welcome among us.

Unfortunately, we get a constant influx of bigots who come here full of those misconceptions, and rather than seeking to learn, they actually come here to preach and to tell us what we "really" think/feel/believe. If you're in that category, stand by for a massive backlash...we're sick of it!

Even if you're not in that category, I hope you have a thick skin. So many Christian zealots come here to abuse us, using so many deceptions to try to achieve their abusive ends, that few of us are quick to trust.

I hope you're one of the rate theists who listens and treats us as equally human and deserving of respect. We value the theists who do so; they are as much members of this community as any atheist. That's because atheism itself isn't a thing, but a lack of a thing, so our community isn't formed by mutual atheism but by mutual respect and intellectual inter/discourse.

Where you fit in (or don't) is entirely up to you.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

I am a believer of Christ and believe that end times are near. That is my personal belief - I came here to share and research more about Atheism.
Welcome to this here forum!

Nice! Tell me more about the end times! Will there be big explosions like in that Roland Emmerich movie? Or more like the world just stops and *bing* game over and then the points are counted up and bonus points for like going to special places and such like in some computer games? Or is it going to be nasty with zombies and such. Because that would be uncool, but in a pretty cool kind of way if you know what I mean. And will the whore of babylon come also? If that is anything like the movies.man that is going to be a site to behold. I once played the trumpet too, but not like the stuff from the bible, that is some f* up sh*t.

This is a good example. No, I don't believe in air. I don't need to believe in it, because I can test and measure it; I can prove it's there and by what scientific principles it operates. I can show how air mathematically interacts with the universe.

There is no need for belief. If you have to just believe in something that cannot be demonstrated or measured, then it's probably not real.

Atheists believe in lots of things. Just not in any gods - because that would be silly.

Welcome, btw.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

As you've been told, there's nothing to "get" about atheism. It's disbelief in god claims. You don't believe in Zeus and thousands of other gods for pretty much the same reason I don't believe in yours. Simple.

But here's a belief I hold that has nothing to do with atheism and that pertains to your end times fantasy. I believe that "Revelation" isn't a book of divine fortune-telling meant for an audience two-odd millennia after it was written. I believe it was a work of urgent concern both to the author and to his audience and was written the way it was because to come right out and name the Romans would have been ill-advised for obvious reasons.

For that reason, I simply can't take end-timers seriously except as psychological curiosities.

Oh, and welcome!

Thanks @TheRocketSurgeon. I hear to learn more about atheism and not to preach, as Christianity is my personal belief and I have no rights to push it onto  other people. Sincere apologies if my entry post was a bit offline - I shouldn't have put the "end times" phrase in it - as I didn't know that atheists do not belief in end times.

I believe in the end times. Have you heard of the heat death?
