Getting to be?  In Bible Belt 'Murica, it's the norm.  

A few years ago, there was a YouTube video that went viral about a preacher punching a kid who was "disrespecting the Lord".

In 2009, I was working at a high school.  I watched the choir director slam a boy into the wall because the boy said "Jesus Christ!"  There was a complaint filed - the young man showed me his bruises, they were pretty bad.  I was required to submit a witness report.  As far as I know, the teacher was just given a warning.

My RE teacher told off a boy for saying "Jesus Christ" in class. I argued that he was just calling for the saviours assistance with his troubles, I think I got a detention.
