While going through my DVD of Planet Earth II, I managed to tarry long enough on the coming attractions section before the menu to have this catch my eye:

It's a part of the "documentary theatre" genre pioneered by The Laramie Project, but with a twist: it's a musical. The music is actually based on the pitch variations from the actual recorded interviews that formed the text of the play, kind of like the stage works of Steve Reich (okay, in Reich's works, the original recording is played and it's the instruments mimicking the pitches the speaker makes, not actors turning the speech into song).

The subject matter? It's about a serial murderer from 2006, and specifically, the reactions of the neighbourhood to the murders. My immediate response on finishing this trailer: I HAVE TO WATCH THIS. An obscure, critically-acclaimed British musical about a serial killer? How the fuck is this not in my Wheelhouse? Well, maybe the fact that it's not focused on the gory details (Hell, the killer isn't even credited on IMDb, unless they changed the name, which is unlikely, given their commitment to being true to the text of the original interviews.)

Unfortunately, the DVD is not available at my local library. There's two full uploads of the film on Youtube, one under a paywall, and the other with no sound. Well, I suppose it's just as well I don't have a copy immediately available, since I just had a triumphant review of Bohemian Rhapsody posted to Anglotopia earlier in the week, and I prefer to space out my film reviews.

Youtube has happened upon a string of songs by Kenny Wayne Shepherd. I'm content to let it continue in that vein.
