Another reason Buddhism doesn't get a pass.

RE: Another reason Buddhism doesn't get a pass.
He's counting on that, actually.  If you read back a few posts you'll find that he's pretty sure that karma is going to fuck with  -someone else- for what he's done. In this regard, christianity has his buddhism beat...and it's a sad day when christianity manages to claim some high ground over an alternative.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

You do realise that once you're dead you're dead. There is no part of you which survives death, your consciousness dissipates once your synaptic neurons cease firing? And if you stop when you die, then there is no reincarnation, hence no way for karma to rape you.

That sir is your view as an Atheist and there is nothing wrong with it. I don't know what will happen to me when i die, I like to believe that karma and rebirth exists as a natural law of nature.

Karma is simply the Asian/Indian/Orient version of "revenge". It is just as superstitious an idea as the concept of hell. It is a comic book reflection of an explanation as to how humans react to threats to self, family and or tribe. Humans evolved to value self, if we did not we would not look both ways when crossing the street. When we are  threatened we react to those threats.

There is no such thing as Karma anymore than their is a hell to burn in. Friend and foe alike all die. 50 million humans per year worldwide die from everything. The real reason humans don't like harm to self, is not magic. We evolved with empathy and that is why we value not being threatened, and why we seek to stop threats to ourselves.

Karma and hell are simply bullshit childish schoolyard concepts of getting even with the bully. They have nothing to do with the evolutionary survival that leads us to defend ourselves.

You've said before you're an atheist too unless I'm mistaken. I think the word you're looking for is sceptic Smile

There is a myth that "atheist" is some sort of religion. It is not a religion, it is not a political party, it is not an economic view. "atheist" merely means "off" on god claims. It does not even denote level of education.

I have run into atheists who simply stop at "it doesn't make sense" but don't do shit to educate themselves as to why it doesn't make sense. I know atheists who have their own superstitions and woo, and do buy into conspiracies like 9/11 and JFK.

So yea Robvalue "View as an atheist" is a horrible way to understand an atheist. View us as individuals.

I am an Atheist/Buddhist if it makes sense. I practice Buddhism but doubt Karma and rebirth. I still believe in it because it helps me to be a better person. Your one of the very few "Atheists" i have come across on this forum who are actually polite towards others. You understand and practice the word "empathy"

Nobody "practices" any religion, they swallow and follow.

A lawyer practices, a student practices, a musician practices, a sports player practices.

No sorry, any kind motif you point to to justify holding your club label, can be found in all religions in some description. Buddhism is no more a cure for 7 billion humans than Hinduism, and I hate to tell you this, but Buddhism is nothing but a spinoff of Hinduism.

No, sorry see that is your problem. "Empathy" is in evolution, and so is cruelty. You are hiding behind your label to avoid criticism by using "don't pick on me" as a dodge. Buddhists do not deserve anymore a taboo than Muslims or Christians.

Nobody is talking about taking your human right to believe what you want. But no, you don't get to set up censorship either. If you are more worried about getting offended, than the actual physical violence and tribalism all religions set up, then to me, your priorities as a human, suck.

Civility isn't about never getting offended. Civility is what you do when someone offends you. Now please don't pretend Buddhism is perfect because it is not. I am quite ready to point out the transgressions of Asia and the Orient too.

Nobody is or at least should not advocate violence to their fellow human beings. But nobody has a right to decide for everyone what is or is not offensive. As an atheist I have been equated to monsters like Hitler and Stalin and Po Pot. That does insult me, no not the right to make bullshit claims, but the logic is insulting to me.

If we all got to censor everything we don't like, all 7 billion humans could easily think of things we'd rather not hear. "Empathy" is not about censorship. Empathy is knowing that you can handle getting offended in non violent ways.

I will not give Buddhists a pass either. We are the same species, and what matters more to me, is non violence, not someone pissing me off with mere blasphemy.

Buddhism protects free speech automatically? Now show me in the artwork itself where there are cuss words? So even without cussing even Buddhists can be dicks. And over what? Headphones.

Now again, you don't have to go away. We certainly are the same species. But no, you don't deserve to be criticism or blasphemy free by proxy of label.

Funny, but see, you picking on something I like isn't causing me to want to beat the shit out of others or have them murdered or arrested. Religion worldwide has yet to get a clue.

ABBA doesn't get a pass either. Call them crap till you are blue in the face, I really could give a shit less.
