If you want to genuinely have a conversation, limit your scope and ask other their opinions about a specific statement.  Put down your broad brushes and finger pointing sticks.

"Christian" huh? What team are you really batting for pal? Dodgy

Now we all know it's a Poe.  This ridiculousness combined with his 1940's critique of Empress' avatar . . .  Facepalm  unbelievable.

Just forget it. This guy doesn't deserve to be taken seriously. He certainly doesn't deserve 5 pages of replies to a dishonest question. Napoleon has already said all there is to be said on that matter on page 1.

Why would they treat him with respect? He was literally there to tell them they're going to burn in Hell, no? You can sugar coat it by saying he was lecturing them about their diverse lifestyle, but that would just make you condescending and dishonest.

I just wonder if you could help me understand a certain "attitude" I notice from a lot of atheists, including Hitchens, Dawkins and other luminaries.

Not all atheists are this way, but it seems there is a presumptuous certainty from a lot of them.

Marketing.  They want to sell books and increase their brand, or whatever else goes on in that world.

To do that in our society, you act like a dick.  That gets you clickbait headlines on CNN.  It gets you interviews on the tv programming.  Name recognition.  It also makes you a lightning rod for criticism, which means that others will then come to your defense.  All revolving around you.

So, money and fame is the answer for the 'famous' atheist attitudes.  As for the non-famous, it's probably just emulation.  Society takes it's cues from famous/popular people.  They are dicks because they think that's how you're supposed to behave, and don't realize that the famous dicks are doing it to manipulate people for their personal gain.  Although, I suppose they could just be dicks, and be rewarded for being dicks by society.  Tough to say for sure.

It seems to be of a naked woman, which is innapropriate in nearly every setting.

There's nothing wrong with having a female figure as part your avatar, but could you please tone it down a bit?

There are likely married men on this forum!

Uh oh

This is the problem... we as members of AF think that our avie's don't matter... but then someone wonderful finally comes along and shows us the true way of The Lord and how we should change our avies just because they say so.

...of course by the above paragraph I actually mean "TrueChristian are you a poe or just a silly twattish donkeyballs merchant?"... or something to that effect.

I just feel it important to call attention to how theists are sometimes treated.

They often are picked on, or made to feel bad by non-believers, just for believing.

I just think that sort of attitude isn't helpful Sad

Fuck off POE. Nobody gives a shit.

Are you actually serious right now? If there wasn't a minor protection policy in place outside of A69, I could change my avatar to a lot worse buddy.

No, it's not.

Because some random Christian on the Internet said so? I don't think she will.

Not all atheists are this way, but it seems there is a presumptuous certainty from a lot of them.

They seem so convinced there is no God, and seek fit to make fun of and belittle those who just want to believe. There seems to be sort of a strain of intolerance, and an inability to accept they could possibly be wrong ( that's why they are atheists not agnostics Wink !)

I see this hatred and intolerance toward theists manifest in different, sometimes petty ways. From the uppity secular group that wants the public nativity scene down, to the professor expelled for daring to teach alternative theories on life, to the student suspended for wearing a "I Heart  Jesus " t-shirt.

It's like some atheists... just don't like people who are different from them.  Undecided . Sometimes the intolerance gets to be downright hateful and angry.

A dear friend of mine from church was at a gay pride parade this summer. He was just there to talk to the homosexuals gathered, to give them a "different" or "diverse" take on their lifestyle and their consequences. Instead of treating him with respect and dignity the gays ( and one scary lesbian!!!) screamed at him, spat at him and said he was a "creepy fascist" and should "fudge off!"

You atheists know more than I do. Where does this attitude come from? Shouldn't we all be able to get along and exchange ideas peacefully?

Atheists seem so smart... but so provinical and limited as well.. I really would like some clarification please Undecided

Good points raised here.

Frankly I think atheist fundamentalism is a big part of the problem.

This subcategory of atheists are unable to shine a skeptical, rational light on their own beliefs. As a result it becomes almost a religious dogma to them.

Many intelligent, moderate atheists find it embarrassing.
