They wanted a ban on assault rifle kind of guns it's pointless now to do anything but make the laws stricter
even if you banned assault weapon style weapons Joe Schmo with a 3d printer can just print up the lower and upper receiver get the internals and pow gun.

Actually they didn't want a ban on assault rifles, they wanted a ban of sporting and hunting rifles painted black. They didn't know what an assault rifle was. They got their ban, for a time, nevermind that these "assault rifles" were not a significant factor in gun crime or gun deaths. This is why the ban failed to produce results and why our own law enforcement agencies had no interest in continuing to throw good money after bad.

Out right ban but they can't no one is going to willfully give up their guns even if they do the private citizen with a 3d printer is more than enough to make their own guns. Even if they did take away guns they are easy enough to make. Not to mention they would break the right to bear arms so as it stands there will be no gun ban.
