Several years ago encountered a 'kid' at his folks house that wanted an electronic device of his connected to their home theater set up. I had no idea what the device was at the time.
Suddenly, I felt old and decrepit.

about 5 years ago. It is a very painful and terrifying realization.

For me it when was when I failed to get a single award on this forum.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

I grew up learning to ride horses. No, I wasn't posh - my father takes care of horses and teaches horse-riding for a living.
At some point I realized there are no hitching posts anywhere in town anymore and that "Eau de Horse-sweat" is not a very popular scent - that clued me in to the fact, that perhaps my skill-set at that point didn't prepare me quite adequately for the future...

I think I was 16 when I realized I'd never do anything 'great'.

My obsolescence became painfully apparent the first time I saw a 19", V-8, diesel powered vibrator.

I think I'll be there when greater than half of my graduating high school class is dead. 40th will be this year. Guess I'll find out then. We have a class ghoul that enjoys keeping track.

I'm not interested in viewing myself through a societal lens.
