Nobody seems to agree on what the hell it means.  From the Hebrew Elisheba, meaning either oath of God, or God is satisfaction. "pledged to God" "my God is an oath" (my favorite of the list) or perhaps "my God is abundance" The oath or fullness of God. I was told, growing up, that it meant "consecrated to God". OOPS.  Added: just a random observation . . . So, I searched 5 name websites and got 5 different translations for a name that is derived from the Hebrew Elisheva. And yet, a lot of 'Muricans think that the Wholly Babble is divinely inspired, flawless down to every "jot and tiddle", and that a mis-translation is an impossibility. That's just . . . mind-blowing, when you think about it for a moment.
