Of course, the theist fixation on the word "evolution"/evolutionist is understandable, as theists have been exploiting the connotations of language in their campaigns to smear their rational detractors for the past 2000 years. It's surely the "evol" being so "evil"! Be afraid!!!

Thank you, Aroura, for pointing at that abiogenesis has nothing to do with evolution.
Creationists just love to muddy the argument by equating the two. Whether this is out of ignorance, deliberate, or a combination of the two I'm not sure.

I live in the US, and in my real-life experience with these people most of it comes down to the ego-driven, and particularly arrogant anti-social personality finding legitimacy among the gullible and the prior-indoctrinized. Well, I actually have met more than a few who lead evangelical congregations or are trusted with their children who would speak freely of their criminal/violent past before they "found Jesus", and the best part of that joke is the followers who believe their "shepherds" have really reformed at all! There are of course at least as many charismatic and arrogant evangelical leaders who were born and raised where they are, and not to generalize on genetic factors but research on that does lead to the reasonable conclusion that our personalities are all influenced to some extent by this. That the shitheads of the world (including Australian Ken Ham) have been able to exploit American believers and push them to extremes is a matter of geographically-driven history.

There's no excuse for not knowing the difference. Well, maybe if you were home schooled or if you went to an exclusively crappy school. But I bet on ignorance anytime. You have to be fundamentally and wilfully ignorant to believe in creation. A select few apologists may muddy the waters deliberately to keep their ignorant followship in line.

In my experience with evangelical Xtains, not as few as you may think. I'm not saying none of them are sincere, but the charismatically evangelical churches are all around me, and thugs who "found Jesus" lead them. They actually capitalize on their shady "past"! I think of those who I actually met when I see our theists come around here to muddy up the facts, and I don't feel like much benefit of the doubt is warranted.
