I don't get it. How is oil a replacement for animal matter? What are we talking about here, exactly? How does oil affect fertility of land?
I would have to agree with you, though, that we should cut our dependance on oil as much as possible.

Unfathomable amounts of gas and oil are used as the ingredients and energy in commercial fertilizer production....and then there are the phosphorous mines...........and pesticides. We used oil as a replacement for manure, that's how we grow food now. The fertility -comes- from the oil...as does the energy on farm, and work...all of this animals used to provide. They are still the only alternative.
The oil products affect the fertility of the land to an incredibly useful extent in the short term. In the long term......human exploitation and warfare, toxicity of soil, sky, water...destruction of habitat and loss of life on a global scale that ignores the boundaries of species or domesticate/domesticator relationships.

But see, you keep taking about manure and yet earlier you said the bones of the animals and what have you could replace oil in that way as well. So just to make sure, it's not only about manure, it's about their bodies as well?
And I fully agree that we shouldn't use oil in that way. If it really is a binary choice between oil and animal fertiliser, then I have to agree with it, naturally. I guess we'll just have to find out better ways to fertilise soil in the future.

I;m not sure that better means anything in the general, in this area. The oil fertilizer is "better" than the animal fertilizer. That's why we use it, it;s just that there's only so much of it, and it's use is problematic. The animal fertilizer is just a set of chemical reactions that fuel life by decomposition. OTOH, better than that? Livestock is fertility, livestock is mechanical work, livestock is heat energy. Livestock is protein.

And that the only alternative to that is fertiliser we get from manure and other animal material?
It's really hard to agree with you on anything or understand you for that matter when you obscure it that much.

I don't think I'm being obscure in the least bit. There's oil and animal products. That's it, that's all. I think it's an uncomfortable choice, difficult to process considering your position on livestock production, but I'm -certain- that I haven't been vague about it.

Did quite a bit of reading. Sounds like any meat made by this process will have the texture/consistency of ground meat.

And which are better to use for the environment. Animal products, I presume?
