All the McDonalds shit that gets thrown out daily because it's gone cold, is life. Or at lease could've been, as it could've fed many thousands of kids dying of starvation daily.
The world may have a food shortage, but certainly not a junk food shortage.

Well... Just read the first post and tell me what could fit in the place of the word "God" better than "Life"...
Why is it so chocking to most of you to try to think and question concepts? Why do you have this pavlovian reflex of polluting a thread as soon as people use the word "God"... Has this word done anything to you? You should call the Vatican if you've noticed a word has magical powers... and shout : "miracle"!!!
It's funny to see many of you are not atheist, but non-christians. You've not thought of the word God or religion outside the box. You're still defining "God" the same way you used to when you were christians. And when you think of "religion", you just think of those idiots marching the streets with signs saying : "Repent for your sins"... but some day, I hope you'll travel and see there are no idiots like that outside of the USA...
I think our ancestors might have worshipped "Life" as the source of all creation... and then religion became business and it were manipulated. But you seem to prefer the idea it were meant to manipulate people from the beginning, which sounds as an arbitrary and illogic argument. The word "God" exists in every culture. Everyone has a concept for a "supernatural being" and the primitive tribes do not produce all that you associate with "god" and "religion"... Why is that if "god" and "religion" always lead to whatever you claim it does?

We're not stopping you calling life "god". Fill your boots!
What you're saying doesn't make any sense to me.

Robvalue : It were an attempted joke. You say theists have never been able to give you a definition of God... so I'm extending the logic... everyone tried to answer the question and it lead to an incalculable number of answers... an infinite number... so you might say everything came from this question... but anyways, now it's an explained joke, so it's rather lame.
And you're wrong about the fact there was no creation : culture was created.

I try not to get angry on forums. At worst, they can make me sad from seeing there's no understanding whatsoever.
I'd say culture was created because I don't associate the word "creation" with "magic", but with that common phenomenon know as creativity...
A writter creates a text. It doesn't mean he magically created letters, grammar rules, paper, ink,...
I've heard some rabbis say that's how you have to understand the biblical word "creation". The way (american) "young earth creationists" understand that word is completely absurd...
The way I see it, language was created from giving a sentimental value to an item. This is what would have led an item to remain abnormally long in the group and also to generate a lot more tensions than a tool... And this would have led to name the item after a while. They started using a word to speak about that specific item...
So, there's a "creation" at the origin of language/culture : the sentimental value that was put in the item was created, ex nihilo... It is the beginning of a system which appeared at some point...
Oh, and by the way, many animals use names for things, but those are purely subjective words while ours are definetly more abstract... which I think is the reason why we named the names. We're "Sapiens" : we know something : we know that we name things and have a name for the names... that's basically what we know. Everything derives from that knowledge
