Why would you try to combat a statement that isn't an argument? You need to ask for elaboration before it can even become one, and then you can combat.

Usually when I ask for an explanation I get them repeating what they said and asking if they stuttered. :/

But, really, evidence of what?  Compared to what?  What's the methodology in play here?  What's the control group?

If somebody actually says that to you during an argument when you've asked them to elaborate on their statement, you should conclude the discussion by telling them to go fuck themselves. If you have a bag of dick-shaped lollipops, offer them one. Hell, offer them the whole bag.

I sometimes like to cut to the chase with these things by asking why I should care even if there is a god. What difference should it make to me?

I don't get a lot of coherent responses. This is what I generally get:

"You should worship it!"

Me: No thanks. I'm not looking for things to throw myself in front of.

"You should do what God wants!"

Me: If it wants to come talk to me sensibly, we can discuss what it wants and why. I don't deal with lackeys. If it needs your help, I'm not too concerned that he's of any relevance.

"You will be sorry if you don't join my religion!"

Me: Ah. Some honesty at last. You are scared, so I should be scared too. I'm not scared. I'm not interested in religions, especially death cults. If God is an evil dick that will punish me for not worshipping it, I can't trust such a being to stick to its word anyway. So you can keep your religion thanks, I'm doing just fine.

This is only proof of your atheism. It's ok to be an atheist.... Sometimes we all feel a little down. Want my opinion? All atheists are assholes, and you are essentially telling us this is not the case. Are all Christians assholes? Nope! But.... That's okay! There is really nothing but flame bating and further hate inciting, which are by the way examples of atheism, and not, by the way, of Christianity. If you are truly concerned as to how to address such a simple question, take one of the other users examples to heart: Flame bait them. You will surely draw a great number of belief, and then you can feel satisfied, knowing your argument about God is correct and theirs isn't.
