Wounded Warrior Project Fund
Only 60% of donations go toward helping the wounded vets. The fund is disputing that number.

Could be a lower percentage if the books and records are hinky . . . .

Yeah...help with the cost of surgery would be nice, but apparently all they can afford, after necessary expenses, ofc, is a pair of crutches.  The whole reason for their existence was, supposedly, to help cover the institutional failures of the VA and ncreasing concerns of vets after 9/11.  Turns out the actual reason was to make better "administrative" use of precisely those same failures.  Bigger sandwich spreads at the "Gimme Your Money So I can Pretend to Spend it On Joes " yearly gala.  Better venues, bigger rooms at hotels with nicer pools.  An extra bag of peanuts in a better class of seat on the flight there.

Fuck em. Turn em over to the service for military tribunal. See how they like that shit. Gravel doesn't break itself, and we have alot of firing ranges that need resurfacing.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. There's a lot of scam charities that are out to make money. Wounded Warriors is just another. They're not the worst, but they're far from fantastic.

People have realized the best way to make money is to ask for it for a 'good cause'. Churches and Charities are two great ways to make money if you have zero integrity and scruples.

Surprising number of "police" based charities on there.

Or maybe not so surprising.

9 out of 48 are for cancer.

And that means 100% of the overhead for all them is totally wasted as there is actually a cancer charity or 2 out there NOT ON THE FUCKING LIST.

And then if they do manage to direct a nickle to research, wadda ya think the chances are they all coordinate their programs so they don't fund FUCKING REDUNDANT PROGRAMS ???

The high cost of soliciting donations is just the tip of the iceberg for FUCKING WASTE here.

You're right about that, V.  There is also this aspect of the problem.

If there were fewer redundant charities, methinks it might be feasible/possible to have charity execs almost exclusively drawn from the pool of folks that don't need the income. (and therefore don't get paid) I know people on disability (for physical work) that would be highly capable in an administrative role, and changing the requirements on the disability programs to allow them to work for charitable orgs in functions not relevant to their disability sans wages, would eliminate the set of folks looking to get rich. I'd think some of the less odious 'trust funders' would be fine too, especially the ones that are not pissing away their $$$.

Lottery winners, spouses in similar circumstances to that divorced woman I know (financially set for life courtesy of her rich philandering bastard hubby), retirees from (successful) businesses. There's probably other groups too.

Hell, I'm on a couple boards, don't take $$$ for my legit expenses, and donate my time and money. the # of charities should be tailored to the # of folks able to manage them sans salary/expense accounts.
